Having a calendar with the holidays of each city will help you avoid the days that Spanish people have free days. Why is this important? Because in Spain, having a holiday means many attractions and amenities might close or reduce attention hours.
After reading this article, you will have a list of Seville’s fourteen most important holidays, plus the calendars for 2023 and 2024.
Always check the opening hours of any attraction you want to visit, especially if it is on the same day as a public holiday.

1.New Year’s Day - Año Nuevo
In Spain, December 31 is an extraordinary celebration where the partying and fun continue until well into the early morning hours. You will have the opportunity to eat the traditional lucky grapes.
If you want to say goodbye to the year in Puerta del Sol style, Plaza Nueva is your place. Many Sevillians and tourists gather to eat the 12 grapes at 00:00 and welcome the New Year together. After the countdown with the City Hall clock in Plaza Nueva, you can move to the many bars open all night in the center of Seville. On January 1, having a special lunch with your family or friends is common.
2. Three Kings Day - Día de Reyes
The Three King’s Day is a holiday that commemorates the day when the three kings, Melchior, Gaspar, and Balthazar, arrived with gifts for the baby Jesus. It takes place on the night of January 5, and it’s celebrated on the 6th.
The Three Kings Parade is a traditional festival dedicated to children annually all over Spain. In Seville, it is organized by the Ateneo of the city. More than 30 floats travel through the city streets, spreading joy and illusion, leaving behind a shower of candy.
The three kings’ Parade in Seville has a long route, leaving from the University around 5 and returning at 10 pm, traveling the rounds, the Macarena, downtown, Triana, and Remedios, returning to the University.

3. Day of Andalusia - Día de Andalucía
The Day of Andalusia is celebrated every year on February 28. In this festivity all over Andalusia, it is popular to see how the white and green flags adorn the balconies of the houses of the towns and cities of the community. Nowadays, it is common to see children eating bread with oil and sugar. Traditional institutional events are also held in the eight provincial capitals all over the region.
But to know its origin, we must date back to February 28, 1980. On that day, Andalusian citizens went to the polls to vote in the Autonomy Referendum, which triumphed in seven of the eight provinces.
4. Seville Fair - Feria de Sevilla
Light, color, and joy in a show of horses, colorful lanterns, and flamenco dresses. Feria de Sevilla is one of the most important celebrations in Seville and Spain. Depending on the year, the day varies, but always in April, as the name indicates.
The fair’s origins go back years, with the organization of an agricultural and livestock fair in 1847 that attracted farmers who came to the city with their animals.
But what does this fair consist of? Every year in April it takes place the Feria de Abril, the dates vary every year, but it usually takes place the second or third week of April. For a week, more than a thousand “casetas” are installed. They become the second home of the inhabitants of this city, a place to share stories and have fun until the wee hours of the morning.

5. Holy Thursday - Jueves Santo
Holy Thursday is an important Christian feast commemorating the Last Supper of Jesus Christ and the institution of the Eucharist and the priesthood. The Last Supper was when Jesus met with the twelve apostles to bid them farewell before his death. Depending on the year, the day varies, but it is usually in April.
Seville is a perfect place to live a traditional Spanish Holy Week. In the morning, it is typical to visit the churches where you will see the “pasos” just prepared for their departure, feel the atmosphere, enjoy the peculiarity of Seville, and contemplate the magnificent altar of symbols and the works of art that many Sevillian churches have. These are some churches I recommend you going
- Basilica of the Macarena
- Chapel of Nª Srª de los Ángeles
- Church of El Valle
Afterward, you could go to one of the 7 processions: from 2.15 pm, when Las Cigarreras leaves, until 1.30 am, when Monte-Sión enters. The brotherhoods that parade on Holy Thursday are Los Negritos, La Exaltación, Las Cigarreras, Monte-Sión, La Quinta Angustia, El Valle, and Pasión.
Then takes place the Madrugà, which are the processions that take place in the early hours of Thursday to Good Friday in Seville.
6. Good Friday - Viernes Santo
Good Friday is a Christian festival in which the death of Jesus of Nazareth is commemorated. Depending on the year, the day varies.
On Good Friday, going to churches in Seville and seeing the “pasos” like on Holy Thursday is common.
The corporations of Good Friday have a lot of personalities and turn this day of the final part of Holy Week into a romantic afternoon and evening full of great moments for all the people who come to Triana or to the historic center to watch the brotherhoods.
The brotherhoods and fraternities that perform their penitential station on Good Friday are, in order of appearance this year: The Brotherhood of La Carretería, San Buenaventura, El Cachorro, La O, San Isidoro, Montserrat, and La Mortaja. They start around 7 pm to 11:30 pm.

7. Labor Day - Fiesta del Trabajo
International Workers’ Day, or May Day, is May 1, the quintessential holiday of the world labor movement. It is a day that has been habitually used to make different social and labor demands favoring the working classes.
8. San Fernando
On May 30, in Seville, they celebrate St. Ferdinand in honor of Ferdinand III, King of Castile.
May 30, 1252, died in Seville Fernando III, king of Castile, known as the Saint, after reconquering it after the Muslim yoke Fernando III, king of Castile. He was buried in the Royal Chapel of the Cathedral of Seville, where his incorrupt body rests.
Ferdinand III was a great devout Catholic. In gratitude to God, he had the most prominent Catholic temple in Christendom built over the mosque of Seville.
Every year on the anniversary of his death, Seville celebrates on May 30, a solemn and traditional act inside the cathedral, in the chapel of the Virgen de los Reyes; during the religious service, the urn with the incorrupt body of the Saint remains open, and once finished, it can be witnessed and revered by the attendees.
9. Assumption of the Virgin - Asunción de la Virgen
In many Spanish towns and cities, on August 15, flowers are brought to the Virgin of the Assumption, and her image is taken in procession. Commemorating the ascension of the body and soul of the Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus Christ, to Heaven.
The Virgin of the Kings was named Patroness of Seville and the entire Archdiocese.
The day of the Assumption in Seville begins every August 15 with the opening of the doors of the Cathedral of Seville around five o’clock in the morning, in the middle of the night, so that everyone who wishes can venerate the Virgin of the Kings. Eucharists are celebrated from 5:30 onwards.
At 7:30, the Virgin will leave in procession through the streets of downtown Seville when the sun rises.
10. Day of the Hispanidad - Día de la Hispanidad
The day of the Hispanidad is October 12, commemorating the discovery of America by the navigator Christopher Columbus in 1492.
On the afternoon of October 12, an emotional act is the floral offering at the tomb by the mayor of Seville. It is a glorious moment to enjoy the history and the cathedral, which is dressed in its best clothes.
Likewise, the religious act Tedeum is celebrated in the chapel of the Virgen de la Antigua, the conquerors’ patron saint.
11. All Saints Day - Día de Todos los Santos
On November 1, the Church celebrates a solemn feast for all the deceased who, having overcome purgatory, have been totally sanctified, have obtained the beatific vision, and enjoy eternal life in the presence of God.
The tradition on All Saints’ Day in this is to visit the cemetery and decorate the graves with flowers, something familiar in most towns.
12. Spanish Constitution Day - Día de la Constitución Española
On December 6, 1978, a referendum was called with the following question: “Do you approve the Draft Constitution?” The results left no room for doubt: the “yes” vote was widely won in all the provinces. That is why nowadays we celebrate December 6, the Spanish Constitution Day.
The 1978 Constitution is celebrated in Seville with the Plaza de España Awards Ceremony at the Government Delegation in Andalusia, North Tower.
13. Immaculate Conception Day - Día de la Inmaculada Concepción
The Immaculate Conception Day is a religious festivity on December 8. It commemorates the conception of the Virgin Mary, a dogma of the Catholic Church adopted on December 8, 1854, which states that the Virgin Mary was free of sin and guilt from the moment of her conception until her death.
This day is commemorated in Seville in an extraordinary and particular way, with the dance of the sixes. It is a liturgical act with several centuries of antiquity in which the sixes (choir boys) dance in front of the High Altarpiece of the Cathedral, something that they only do three times a year. Also, during the night of the eve of the celebration, songs are sung in honor of the Virgin in the Plaza de la Inmaculada.

14. Christmas Day - Navidad
Christmas is celebrated every December 25, a Christian holiday that celebrates the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem.
Christmas in Seville is very traditional: nativity scenes, typical illuminations, convent and Christmas sweets, and family parties. In recent years, street activity has intensified with light decorations, Christmas carols, and nightlife.
