In this post, you will see that sometimes it is unnecessary to spend a lot of money to have a good time and that you can come to Mallorca even if you do not have a lot of money. That doesn’t mean you can’t treat yourself once in a while!
After many travels and mistakes, these are my 7 tips to travel to Mallorca and save a lot of money!

1. Plan to travel to Mallorca out of season
Mallorca is an incredible place you can visit at any time of the year, as its Mediterranean climate offers pleasant temperatures all year round. So if you have no problem at work and can take vacations at any time of the year, I recommend visiting Mallorca out of season.
In high season the island becomes an absolute madness; hotel prices skyrocket, and wherever you go, it will be crowded, so you won’t enjoy as much.
So if you want to save money going to Mallorca and other destinations, you better avoid going in the high season.
When is the low season in Mallorca?
The low season goes from November to April (Easter). Although the downside of visiting the island during these months is that many hotels and restaurants are closed. The good part is that you will have beaches, coves, trails, and points of interest all to yourself!
So if you like photography, it will be the perfect time to have no one around and be able to take your photo without any intruders in it.
When is the mid-season in Mallorca?
The mid-season is in April, May, June, September, and October. From Easter, many hotels and restaurants start to open and stay open until October. It is the perfect time for hiking, climbing, biking, and even canyoning!
When is the high season in Mallorca?
High season is from July to August, which is the time when prices go through the roof, room rates become ridiculously high, and you have to book well in advance or look for a last-minute deal.
Therefore, if you are on a tight budget, traveling to Mallorca in the low season or mid-season will allow you to get better hotel prices and Airbnb, as the demand is lower. And the best thing is you will be able to find a table in a restaurant, and you will have many places to enjoy alone!
2. Find your flight and accommodation in advance
Are you clear about your travel dates?
If you plan your trip well in advance, you will likely find a great deal.
I know it can be a bit overwhelming to start planning a trip that you want to make several months from now, but keep in mind that buying your flight and hotel reservations well in advance can save you a lot of money.
In Booking, you will find several accommodations that allow you to cancel for free up to a specific date. So, it’s OK to look ahead, make the reservation, and cancel later if you change your mind.
Use the Skyscanner search engine to search for your flights and compare prices. For accommodation, I recommend you to look at Booking and Airbnb and compare prices, and also check it through the private website of each place.
You can also reach Mallorca by boat, depending on where you are in Spain. You must look at the different ferry companies: Balearia, Grandi Navi Veloci, and Trasmed GLE.
3. Choose the right transport
For your trip to Mallorca to be as cheap as possible, choose well the transport with which you will move around the island.
The most economical option and the one that has more advantages is to rent a car.
If you opt for public transport and want to move to many places, you must pay for each displacement. Also, you must consider that public transport has its schedules and doesn’t get to all places. It will stop at a specific place, and from there, you will have to walk or take a cab, so in the end, it will not be so cheap.
Having a rental car, you will be able to get anywhere without taking any other kind of transport and have total freedom!
Another option to move around Mallorca is to rent a motorcycle. If you don’t have to carry many things and you like to enjoy the wind on your face, renting a bike is an excellent option to get around the island. And the best thing about the bike is that you won’t have any problems finding a parking spot!
To know more about how to move around Mallorca, we got you covered with the article below:
When looking for car rental companies, look carefully at the conditions they offer and if they have several offices around the island. This way, you will be able to rent it in the town where you are staying, and you will not have to travel to other places or pay extra for airport taxes.
4. Cook your own meals
A big part of the money we spend when traveling is mainly spent on food, especially for those of us who like to eat well and try different dishes.
Mallorca is full of super nice restaurants, with a great gastronomic variety of traditional Mediterranean dishes, so it is challenging to control yourself and avoid succumbing to its charms.
But if you want to save money and spend less, you must start cutting back! How? Well, if we usually eat three main meals daily (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), you must adjust your pocket and look for cheaper options. Here are some ideas:
If you are staying in a house or apartment with a kitchen, buy food in supermarkets or local markets and cook at home.

Booking in hotels with full or half board.
If you go to the beach, take a snack with you, like fruit, carrots, or something easy to eat that you can eat coldly. This way, you will avoid eating in a beach bar or in one of the restaurants on the beach, where you will spend a lot of money (and even more if you go with your family).
Look for restaurants with a menu of the day that are relatively inexpensive.
By doing this, you will save more money than you can imagine. This doesn’t mean you can’t treat yourself one day and go out for lunch or dinner to a cool place you like!
In fact, we have a post where you can find out the best restaurants in Mallorca. Enjoy it!
5. Organize your own free tour around Mallorca
Nature is priceless! In Mallorca, there are plenty of places and activities that will not cost you a single cent.
This spectacular island hides dream places you can visit on your own without needing a guide or paying an entrance fee, as it happens in other countries where you have to pay to access the beach.
You will be able to enjoy a lot of routes where the mountain landscape is mixed with the beach.
In every corner of Mallorca, you will find treasures, from its beautiful Tramuntana mountains to its paradisiacal beaches and coves.
Don’t miss our post about the best beaches and coves in Mallorca!
Whether you go alone or with your family, friends, or partner, you will have plenty of options during the day.
You just need to write down the places you want to go and those you can’t miss. Don’t forget to check where are the best spots on the island to see the sunset. There is no better way to end the day than enjoying an incredible sunset!
So all you need is enough time to organize yourself!
6. Find out which sites are free of charge
Besides the incredible nature of Mallorca, which you can enjoy for free, there are some places of great cultural interest that are worth visiting.
Many of them are totally free; you just have to search well and check if there is free entrance any day of the week.
Here is a list of the places you can visit for free:
- Bellver Castle
- Museum of Mallorca
- Lighthouse of Porto Pi
- Castle of San Carlos
- Free visit to the Cathedral of Palma de Mallorca
- Es Baluard Museum
- Casal Can Balaguer
- Juan March Foundation Museum
- Royal Palace of the Almudaina
- Cort Town Hall
- Marivent Gardens
So, if you like art and culture but don’t have much budget, don’t worry because you can enjoy these places without paying a single euro!
Check out the free schedules and reduced rates of each place in advance and make the most of your visit with less money.
7. Take out a good travel insurance
This advice may seem more of an expense than a way to save money but believe me, if something happens to you, you will have saved a lot of money.
This is coming from someone who almost didn’t take insurance on his trip, and thank God I took it two days before flying because I broke my toe and had surgery. The insurance covered everything, and I did not have to pay extra.
Besides, nowadays there are a lot of insurance companies with which you can get really low prices.
The one I recommend the most and the one that has worked best for me in my travels is IATI.
And here is our list of tips to save you a lot of money during your trip to Mallorca. Saving money during your vacations in Mallorca is possible!
Remember to avoid the high season (the European summer), buy your plane or ferry tickets in advance, book your hotel in advance, prepare your own food, and find free and fun activities to do.
I hope you have found this helpful! If you have any other tips or secrets you would like to share, we would love to hear from you!
